Role of S in growth and physiol. of plants was discussed. Deficiency of S results in redn. of the resistance of plants against diseases and pests and contributes to decreasing the food quality. Literature data on the occurrence of S and its compds. in soil and atmosphere as well as on soil fertilizing with S compds. were reviewed.
