Two corn. glycerol fractions (by-products from biodiesel prodn.) were ethoxylated with ethylene oxide on NaOH and Ca catalysts at 160 degrees C and 120-360 kPa. The ethoxylation degree was higher but ethoxylation rate was lower when NaOH was used as the catalyst. The ethoxylates showed good lubricating properties.
