Glucose was etherified with 1-octafluoropentanol and 1-dodecafluorohexanol to resp. glucosides at 100 degrees C or 70 C for 5 h under 26.7 kPa on homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysts. The highest yield (more than 40%) was achieved on homogeneous catalysts but the product had a low purity. The optimum results (yield above 30%, high purity) were achieved on ion exchanging resins as catalysts.
