ZnO-SiO2 composite was pptd. by addn. of (i) 5% soln. of Na2SiO3 to 5% soln. of ZnCl2 (1:1), (ii) 5% soln. of ZnCl2 to 5% Na2SiO3 (1:1), or (iii) 5% soln. of ZnCl2 and Na2SiO3 to H2O (1:1:0.25) at 20-80 degrees C, sepd. by filtration, dried at 105 degrees C for 24 h, and analyzed for grain size distribution, polydispersity, surface morphology, sp. surface area, color, sedimentation profiles and chem. compn. The pptd. method under (iii) yielded at 20 degrees C the products of with the highest brightness.
