Hydrothermal decomposition in subcritical and supercritical water of cellulose as model substance for lignocellulosic biomass
Microcryst. cellulose was hydrolyzed in H(2)O under subcrit. and supercrit. conditions to reductive saccharides, carboxylic acids, furfurals, aldehydes and (HOCH(2))(2)CO. The reaction products were sepd. into the aq. phase, oil phase and solid residue. The max. yields of glucose and lactic acids were reached at 260-280 degrees C and 220-280 degrees C, resp., at very beginning of the reaction.
