Dispersed phase droplet size of primary pharmaceutical emulsion and emulsion after the reconstruction as a criterion for assessing the quality of pharmaceutical dry emulsions
A pharmaceutical oil soln. of vitamin E was disperged mech. or ultrasonically in aq. solns. of thickeners (gelatine, xanthan gum, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose), lyophilized under 0.001 mbar and then reconstructed by addn. of H2O to compare the dispersed phase droplet size distribution before and after the reconstruction. The reconstructed emulsions showed higher size of the oil phase droplets than the primary ones. The xanthan gum was found the best thickener for the dry emulsions. The anal. method used was recommended for studying dry pharmaceutical emulsions.
