Thermal catalytic treatment of waste polyolefins and polystyrene to middle calorific fuel gas and/or syngas. Preliminary study
A mixt. of corn. low-d. polypropylene, high-impact polystyrene granulates and spent oil was molten and processed to rods (15 mm in diam.) pyrolyzed at 456-505 degrees C in a lab. reactor with catalyst beds fluidized with CO(2) and steam to gaseous products. The highest yield of H(2) and CO was achieved when a Ni/Al(2)O(3) catalyst (grain size 0.2 mm) was used.
