Flow of viscoelastic polymer solutions through a planar contraction with a boundary layer effect
We propose an equation and boundary conditions characterizing flow of viscoelastic fluids in pores of a rock. The equation was discretized by a finite-difference method. We obtained the velocity contour for different boundary layers. We found that a more pronounced boundary layer effect leads to a slower flow velocity in the pore and a smaller micro sweep area, while the area occupied by residual oil becomes larger and the sweep efficiency is reduced.
