The synthesis of 1-methyl-2,4,5-trinitroimidazole (6) in good yields starting from imidazole (1) via nitrodeiodination under microwave irradiation is reported herein. The synthesized compounds were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and CHN analyses.
