Modification of tribological properties of elastomers by material engineering methods
Cryst. Cu phtalocyjanines, phtalocyjanine green, ionic liqs. and functionalized polysilsesquioxanes (POSS) were added as modifiers to rubber compds. cured at 160 degrees C. In some cases, the ionic liq. and POSS were adsorbed on nano-sized SiO2 used as a filler. The addn. of modifiers resulted in an increase in abrasive wear resistance and a decrease in tensile strength of the vulcanizates. Rubber vulcanizates were also surface-treated with ion bombardment or gas fluorination. The surface treatment resulted in decreasing the friction coeff. and swelling in fuels and increasing the surface wettability and surface energy. Use of Ar+ ions for bombardment was most efficient.
