Cardanol was oxyethylated with oxirane in presence of alk. catalysts. NaOH and a Ca catalyst showed the highest catalytical activity. The oxyethylates were studied for fractional compn. and surface tension, foaming and emulsifying capacity as well as lubricity in aq. solns. They showed similar properties as com. nonylphenol ethoxylates used as surfactants.
