Study on the synthesis of epichlorohydrin by dehydrochlorination of dichloropropanols from the glycerol hydrochlorination
Dichloropropanols (I) were dehydrochlorinated with NaOH or Ca(OH)(2) to epichlorohydrin either in a flow or in a batch reactor at 55-70 degrees C. The highest conversion of 1 was 97% and process selectivity 93% at 55 degrees C in the presence of 25% NaOH soln. and at the NaOH-to-1 mol ratio about 1 after 8-10 min. The sepn. of the post-reaction mixt. into org. and aq. phases was efficient.
