The densities of dilute aqueous solutions of eight alkyl acetates (methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl acetates) were measured at 5, 15, 25, 35, and 45 degrees C by means of a vibrating tube densimeter. The limiting partial molar volumes and its temperature dependences for the alkyl acetates in water were estimated and compared with those for more hydrophilic solutes, alcohols, reported previously. The results were discussed in terms of the effects of chain length and chain branching of alkyl residues on the solute-solvent interactions.
