Cellulose filter sheets, a widely used technology in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries, can be functionalized during the assembling process by the embedding of ion exchanger particles into the matrix. The mechanical properties and the filtration characteristics of these filter sheets meet the industrial requirements. The ion exchanger properties, tested at technically relevant flux parameters, correspond to the model ideas of flow through packed beds of ion exchangers.
