A New Method of Electrode Material Preparation for Hydrogen Absorption-Desorption
In the present study, the preparation of Mg/Ni(MgO)/Ti sintered body with the new method to improve electrochemical performance and hydrogen storage properties is proposed. The experiment deals with investigations on the effects of adding Ti powder and Ni(MgO) into the pure Mg ingot using cover and sintering method for electrochemical and hydrogen storage properties of Mg/Ni(MgO) and Mg/Ni(MgO)/Ti samples; Ni(MgO) powder is used as basis sample due to the voltage of Ni is up to ideal voltage value of -0.25 V approximately. Mg/Ni(MgO) and Mg/Ni(MgO)/Ti samples exhibited-better electrochemical properties compared to the basis sample electrode. The experimental method was used to form hard electrode material that has an apparent special stratified structure, in which most of the powder is penetrated into the Mg ingot obviously. Not only the formation of the new type sintered body has increased the voltage value but also the ability of hydrogen absorption-desorption has been improved significantly based on the Ni(MgO) basis sample. The crystal structure and corrosion condition were determined for the penetration of Ti powder by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The hydrogenation behavior was investigated by cyclic voltammeter and the current and the voltage were detected by electrochemical. (C) 2013 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
