Antimicrobial activity of 1-alkoxymethyl-X-dimetylaminopyridinium ionic liquids
1-Alkoxymethyl-3 and 4-dimethylaminopyridinium acesulfames and saccharinates (alkyl C4H9 to C18H37) were prepd. by the reaction of resp. chlorides with acesulfame K or Na saccharinate with good yield and examd. for antimicrobial activity. Min. inhibitory and biocidal concns. against rods, cocci and fungi were detd. The salts reveal a good antimicrobial activity especially against both Gram-positive cocci and fungi. Aq. solns. of the salts had a sweet taste and were thermally stable. The salts with Me2N group at position 4 were resistant to O-3 while that with Me2N group at position 3 were oxidized almost quant.
