SEM-EDX and Equilibrium Study of Modified Bentonite in Silicate Adsorption
The adsorption of silicate on aluminum-salt-modified bentonite is described on the basis of SEM-EDX and equilibrium data. The SEM-EDX study showed that silicate was clearly absorbed by the modified bentonite; the EDX data could present the adsorption rate. It results from the adsorption kinetics, according to which the adsorption reaction is second order with respect to silicate concentration, with the second-order rate constant k = 0.005600 mg g(-1) min(-1). Finally, the maximum adsorption capacity of the modified bentonite is 454.545 mg g(-1) in green liquor. It is an efficient and potential adsorbent for silicate adsorption, which can solve the energy-consumption problems of the equipment and recovery of green liquor.
