Electronic solid state spectra are recorded for C-60 embedded in 40 K water ice using broad band direct absorption spectroscopy, and assigned with reference to existing matrix data. The results are interesting in view of the recent gas phase detection of fullerenes in the interstellar medium and provide a realistic solid state signature to search for frozen C-60 in space.
