Kinetic study of the reactions of chlorine atoms with fluoroethane and D-fluoroethane in the gas phase
The kinetics of the gas-phase reactions of the chlorine atoms with fluoroethane (C2H5F) and D-fluoroethane (C2D5F) was studied experimentally. The relative rate method was applied using Cl + CH3Cl as the reference reaction. The rate constants for H-abstraction from C2H5F (k(H)) and D-abstraction from C2D5F (k(D)) were measured in the temperature range of 298-528.5 K. The temperature dependency of the rate constants are described by the expressions: k(H) = (2.11 +/- 0.20) x 10(-11)exp(-317 +/- 12/T) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) and k(D) = (1.57 +/- 0.18) x 10(-11)exp(-513 +/- 26/T) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1). KIE, kinetic isotope effect, described by the ratio k(H)/k(D), was found to be 2.73 +/- 0.14 at 298 K. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
