Tuntex puts Taiwan cracker plans on ice
Thai Olefins Co. (TOC) has revived a $130-million project to boost ethylene capacity from 385,000-m.t/year to 700,000-m.t./year at Map Ta Phut. it is in conjunction with a stock-listing plan, company executives say. TOC says the expansion project will enable it to survive without merging with other petrochemical companies. It had previously sought investment partners to keep the company afloat (CW, Nov, 17, 1999, p. 24). TOC is an affiliate of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT). The expansion will consume ethane from MT's natural gas separation plants. TOC expects the expansion to cut its unit production costs by about 10%.
