New spray flamelet equations considering evaporation effects in the mixture fraction space
New flamelet equations for spray combustion considering evaporation effects are derived in the mixture fraction space based on the instantaneous Eulerian transport equations for gas phase and Lagrangian descriptions for droplets. The novelty of these equations lies in some source terms related to evaporation which were neglected in previous studies. The influences of spray evaporation on flamelet structures are demonstrated by solving the steady spray flamelet equations. It is found that the evaporation source term may shift or even create new reaction zones, increase the chemical reaction rate, and change the profiles of scalars in the mixture fraction space. These comprehensive effects should be included in future spray combustion modeling. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
