Synthesis and Characterization of Poly-(oxy-1,3-phenyleneoxy-2-bromoterephthaloyl), a Regioregularly Substituted Aromatic Polyester
A regioregularly substituted aromatic polyester, poly(oxy-1,3-phenyleneoxy-2-bromo-terephthaloyl), was prepared via a multistep synthetic pathway and its general properties such as glass transition temperature, melting point, and crystallization behavior are compared with those of the corresponding randomly substituted polymer prepared from 2-bromoterephthalic acid and 1,3-diacetoxy benzene. The regioregularly substituted polymer was found to reveal significantly higher Tg, Tm and degree of crystallinity when compared with those of the irregularly substituted polyester.
