Rheological Properties of Model Pressure Sensitive Adhesives
Model pressure sensitive adhesives were prepared by solution-blending poly(styrene-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) elastomer and various tackifiers such as aliphatic resin, aromatic resin, hydrogenated resin, and rosin ester resin. Rheological properties, morphology, and adhesive properties of the SBS/tackifier blends were investigated. When the tackifier was compatible with the polybutadiene block of SBS, the 180°peel strength and the storage modulus of the SBS/tackifier blend were low. On the contrary, when the tackifier was compatible with the polystyrene block of SBS, the storage modulus and the peel strength of the blend were relatively high. As the tackifier content was increased, the storage modulus of the blend was increased, except for the SBS/hydrogenated resin blend. The higher the storage modulus of the blend was, the higher the 180° peel strength was obtained.
