Polymerization of Acetylene Derivatives Containing a Bulky Siloxy Group
Monomers containing a bulky siloxy group 3-t-butyldimethylsiloxy-1-propyne(TSOP) or 4-t-butyldimethylsiloxy-butyne(TSOB) were prepared from t-butyldimethylsilyl chloride and corresponding alcohols. The polymerization of TSOP and TSOB were carried out by transition metal catalysts under various polymerization conditions. MoCl5-based catalysts were found to be more effective than WCl6-based ones. The polymerization yield was not affected by the chain length of the monomers. The structure of the polymers were analyzed to have conjugated double bonds by various spectroscopic methods such as IR, 1H-and 13C-NMR, UV-visible spectroscopies. The resulting polymers were completely soluble in common organic solvents. The number average molecular weights(Mn) of the polymers were 1.5×104∼2.0×104. Poly(TSOP) and poly(TSOB) were thermally stable up to 250℃. It was found that poly(TSOP) and poly(TSOB) had about 10-15 Scm-1 of electrical conductivity.
