Poly(dimethylsilane) (PDMS) is a simple representative of the polysilanes and it is an important polymer to understand basic properties of polysilanes. However, vibrational spectra of PDMS is not fully understood yet. In this study, deuterated PDMS, i.e. (SiCD₃CD₃)_n and (SiCH₃CD₃)_n, are synthesized, in order to obtain vibrational spectroscopic data of PDMS. The data would lead to the normal mode analysis of PDMS. The synthesized polymers were characterized by WAXD and infrared spectra. Both polymers have the same unit cell structure as that of PDMS. Oriented thin films of the polymers were also prepared by the mechanical deposition method, and polarities of infrared bands were measured. Tentative band assignments of infrared spectra were proposed.
