Alkyl-Chain-Length Dependence of the Excess Volumes for (an Alpha,Omega-Dichloroalkane Plus an Alkan-2-One)
Excess molar volumes V(m)E at the temperature T = 298.15 K and normal atmospheric pressure were obtained for {xCH2Cl(CH2)p-2CH2Cl + (1 - x)CH3CO(CH2)q - 3CH3} for p = 5 or 6 and for q = 3 or 4 or 5 or 6. Experimental V(m)E values were determined from densities measured using a vibrating-tube densimeter. All the mixtures studied exhibit negative excess molar volumes, which become more negative when the length of the alpha,omega-dichloroalkane increases. The characteristics of the excess molar volumes are compared with those of the excess molar enthalpies of the same mixtures.
