Improving the forming characteristics of aluminium sheets for aerospace applications
The first part of this paper recalls the metallurgical principles applied to develop a new " high formability " 2024 alloy. The properties of this alloy are compared to those of standard 2024, in W and T351 tempers. "High formability" 2024 dearly displays a better formability. Secondly, the paper describes a series of experiments and calculations regarding elastic springback of various aluminium alloys after simple bending and stretch-bending. The modelling shows very good agreement with the experimental results.
