Evaluation of residual stresses near a welded zone by transmission energy dispersive X-ray diffraction
The transmission diffraction using standard X-ray equipment and energy dispersive analysis is tested for plane strain measurement near a welded joint in a 0.4 mm thick stainless steel sheet. The principal stresses can be determined as from strain "rosette" gage measurements. For the tested sample, the accuracy is near 80 Mpa for the stresses values, and 5 degrees for their directions.
