As aluminium is replacing steel in many automotive applications including body panels, SPF is becoming more and more recognized by car manufacturers as a viable, cost effective alternative to very complex, multi-stage cold pressing tools for prototype parts, pre-series parts and small to medium volume production parts. This paper describes the design and production of appropriate tooling and the forming by SPF of automotive body panels.
