Microstructural and deformation characteristics of a laminated amorphous/nanocrystalline alloy, Zr67Nb6Cu14Ni10Al3
Considerable interest in the synthesis and properties of bulk metallic glasses has been noted in recent times. In this work, the mechanical properties of a pressure die cast alloy Zr67Ni10Nb6Cu14Al3 in the (amorphous) glassy state with a core that is in partly crystalline state have been investigated under controlled deformation conditions. Microscopy, x-ray analysis and differential scanning calorimetry were performed to characterize the die-cast material in the as-received condition. The mechanical properties of die-cast alloy Zr67Ni10Nb6Cu14Al3 were determined by tension and compression testing.
