A study of TiNi shape-memory alloy modified by pulsed high-energy density plasma
Pulsed high-energy density plasma (PHEDP) surface modification has been applied to TiNi shape memory alloy (SMA). The corrosion resistance of TiNi alloy modified by PHEDP has been greatly improved specially by about one order of magnitude. The plasma film formed on TiNi alloy is composed mainly of nanometer-sized TiN phase and a small amount of Ti2N phase. The transition areas from the film to the substrate is made up combination of TiN, Ti2N and TiNi phases and changes by degrees.
