Stress triaxiality dimple fracture morphology and fractal dimension relations for several aluminum alloys
The relation between fractal characteristics dimple fracture morphology and tensile ductility was investigated in several commercial aluminum alloys. It was observed that both, the fractal dimension and the dimple size increase as the tensile ductility increases. Additionally, the critical stress for microvoid formation at fracture decreases as the tensile ductility increases, which is explained in terms of a continuum mechanics model of the interfacial stress.
