A thermomechanical analysis of the friction stir welding process
A new mechanical analysis is proposed for modelling the material flow pattern and thus for obtaining strain and temperature maps pertaining to the friction stir welding process. The method relies on the splitting of the weld into two zones and the use of classical fluid mechanics velocity fields.
