Fabrication of Ti/TiC/SUS304 laminated composite through concurrent combustion synthesis and diffusion bonding
An amalgamated concurrent process of combustion synthesis and diffusion bonding was employed to bond Ti plate and SUS304 steel plate along with the insert of a Ti/C mixed powder layer in the middle where combustion synthesis reaction of TiC occurs. Ti/TiC/SUS 304 laminated composites were, thus, fabricated for high temperature applications. Strong bond between each laminated layer can be obtained in vacuum. To make highly densified TiC layer, various metal powders, i.e. Ni, Ta Cu, Al and Zr, are usefully added to Ti+C mixed powder. It was found that the addition of 5 wt% Ta powder to Ti+C powder produces fully densified TiC laminated composites with 94% relative density.
