A study on explosively clad Al-SS-Al fiber-reinforced metal composites
The results of an experimental study on explosively clad aluminum-stainless steel-aluminum fiber reinforced metal composites (FRMC) are reported. Open air explosion technique and granular nitroglycerine explosive of detonation velocity 2800 m/s were employed. The design of the process parameters, the influence of the loading ratio and the effect of the mesh size on the interface and the weld strength are defined. It is found that the reinforcement improves the weldability in addition to the amelioration of strength of the composites.
