Web-based forging simulation and virtual workshop
In this research, slab and upper-bound models are developed for quick web-based simulation of the forging process. The dies and billet can be designed using the web-based Java modeling tool or uploaded as DXF/STEP files. The die set and billet are loaded on the virtual machine in the VRML based virtual workshop and the simulation is performed interactively. The slab and upper-bound methods provide a fast solution with comparable accuracy as the finite element method. The newly developed web-based forging process is part of the virtual material processing environment under development at Ohio University [1] [2] [3] [4]. The paper presents the new forging model, web implementation and the virtual workshop with-in the virtual material processing environment.
