The strain measurement in spot welded joints using the ESPI method
Unlike traditional strain gauges or Moire method, a Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) method requires no special surface preparation or attachments, and can be measured in plane displacement with non-contact and real-time. In this study, the ESPI system combined the Model 95 Ar. laser, a video system and an image processor was applied to measure the strain in the cold rolled steel sheet of 2mm thickness attached strain gauges. The experimental results measured by the developed approach compared with the data measured by strain gauge method in tensile testing. The measured results from ESPI technique are quite comparable to those by strain gauge method.
