Porous alumina at the nanolevel
STEM and EDS techniques were used to characterize microstructures of porous alumina. A comparison with microstructures of similarly processed dense materials was carried out. Numerous flat boundaries at the initial stages of sintering are observed. No appreciable segregation of inherent impurities towards boundaries was detected.
