The use of amine catalysis for the reaction of alkoxysilanes to siliceous substrates has been applied to gas phase reactions. The amine is adsorbed onto the substrate from the vapor phase. Alkoxysilanes also applied from the gas phase undergo direct condensation with surface silanols to form siloxane bonds.
