The effect of aluminium ion implantation on the oxidation behaviour of Fe-xCr-yAl alloys
The oxidation behaviour in oxygen-dominated atmospheres of unmodified and surface-enriched in All by ion implantation Fe-xCr-yAl (x = 10 or 20 wt. %, y = 0 or 2 wt. %) alloys was studied at temperatures 1373 and 1273 K in terms of isothermal and thermal cycling exposures. Samples were characterised by means of SEM and EDX. It has been shown that ion implantation of aluminium can improve the degradation resistance of the low-aluminium FeCrAl alloys. This beneficial influence on the alloys performance is, however, of limited duration, in particular at higher temperatures and under thermal cycling conditions.
