Propulsive impulse generation using CO2 TEA lasers
Impulse generation using laser beam energy is experimentally studied. Using CO2 TEA (Transversely-Excited Atmospheric) lasers, three kinds of propulsion experiments are conducted or on in preparation; (1) laser-driven in-tube accelerator, (2) large impulse launch using a 380-J output laser and (3) laser acceleration in free flight. Highlighted results and prospects are reported in this paper.
