Design of crystallographic and morphologic texture for elastic/plastic applications
Methodology is introduced for extending microstructure design, from its present focus on the orientation distribution function, to the 2-point statistical correlations of orientation. The principal challenge is maintaining the physicality of the correlation functions. In this paper, we proceed to the 2-point correlation functions via a cellular approximation to the microstructure in the representative volume element, called the texture function. It is concluded that the interdependency between the 2-point correlation functions is extensive. Brief description is given of calculations of the texture function for rolled and annealed alloy 304 stainless steel.
