Renewed Studies of the Conductance-Anisotropy Effect in Polyelectrolyte Solutions
The flow-induced conductance-anisotropy effect in polyelectrolyte solutions has been re-examined. Measurements were carried out with different samples of poly(styrenesulphonate) polyelectrolytes, in the form of acid and sodium salt. The anisotropy effect was found to be independent of the counterion, which led to the conclusion that the atmospherically bound (condensed) counterions retain a high degree of mobility parallel to the polyion chain.
