New correlations for heat and fluid flow past ellipsoidal and cubic particles at different angles of attack
This work considers heat and fluid flow past ellipsoidal and cubic particles at different angles of attack. Although numerous works have investigated drag forces for spherical and non-spherical particles, there are very few works about Nusselt number relations for such particles, especially in cases where the particles are not oriented in a streamwise direction. Motivated by this fact, three-dimensional numerical simulations of heat and fluid flow past non-spherical particles at different angles of attack were performed. In particular, a laminar-steady flow past ellipsoidal and cubic particles was considered and the results compared against those for a spherical particle. In order to take into account the angle of attack in semi-empirical models, new correlations for the drag, lift and torque coefficients and for the Nusselt number were developed and the accuracy of the closures is discussed in comparison with published models.
