Porous hydroxyapatite/polylactide composites (used as implants of bone tissue) were impregnated with a soln. of ibuprofen, coated with a polylactide film (30 mu m) and studied for drug release rate to a buffer soln. (pH 7.2). Similarly, transparent polylactide ibuprofen-contg. films filled with a nanoclay or modified with addn. of poly(ethylene glycol) were studied for the drug release rate to a buffer soln. (pH 5.5). The drug release kinetics was correlated with model equations. Both systems were found suitable for practical use as drug carriers.
