Pitting corrosion of pickled and electropolished Cr-Ni stainless steel
Cr-Ni stainless steel was examd. before and after pickling and electropolishing for corrosion resistance in 0.5 M NaCl soln. by detn. of open circuit potentials and potentiodynamic polarization curves. The steel was pickled in HF and HNO3-contg. bath and electropolished in a H2SO4, H3PO4 and N(CH2CH2OH)(3)-contg. soln. also under industrial process conditions. The steel pretreatment both under lab. and industrial conditions resulted in an increase in its resistance against the pitting corrosion. The pitting potential increased form 0.3 V for original steel to 0.4 V for pickled steel and up to 0.5 V for electropolished one (versus satd. calomel electrode)
