The Enrichment of L-Phenylalanine Using the Continuous Multistage Pulsed Stirred Column of (W/O)/W Emulsion Liquid Membrane
Enrichment of L-phenylalanine (L-phe) by a continuous multistage pulsed stirred column (CMPSC) newly developed for (W/O)/W emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was studied in the counter-current flow for chloroform-Adogen 464 system and in co-current flow for dodecane-D2EHPA system. The effect of operating variables on enrichment of L-phe. in the CMPSC was investigated by determining the concentration gradient of L-phe. at hydrodynamic steady state. The average enrichment ratio, the swelling ratio and the hold-up of emulsion phase at hydrodynamic steady state were obtained. L-phe. was enriched up to 3.31 times of the feed concentration (4 g/l) in the counter-cu.rent flow (chloroform-Adogen 464 system) and 3.72 times of the feed concentration (8 g/l) in the co-current flow (dodecane-D2EHPA).
