Methanolysis of Poly(ethylene-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate)
Through the methanolysis of poly(ethylene-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate) (PEN), 2,6-dimethylna-phthalate (DMN) was obtained from the filtercake, small amounts of DMN and p-methoxycarbonyl-2-hydroxy-ethyl naphthalate (P-MCHEN) were obtained from the filtrate residue. To convert P-MCHEN to DMN, methanolysis was performed again under various conditions. With increasing amounts of MeOH and catalyst, the conversion of DMN to P-MCHEN increased. It was found that the recovery yield of DMN from PEN waste improved by using of zinc acetate as a second catalyst component which is capable of converting the by-product (P-MCHEN) formed in the methanolysis into DMN.
