Volumetric properties of binary liquid mixtures of alcohols with 1,2-dichloroethane at different temperatures and atmospheric pressure
In this work, the experimental densities of binary mixtures of 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) with 2-propanol, 2-butanol, 2-pentanol, 2-hexanol or 2-octanol have been measured under atmospheric pressure, at the whole composition and in the temperature range of 288.15-313.15K. From these results, excess molar volumes, V-E, have been calculated and fitted to Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. Partial molar volumes and excess partial molar volumes, at infinite dilution, (V) over bar (infinity)(i) and (V) over bar (E.infinity)(i) respectively, have also been calculated using the A(i) coefficients of Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. For all the systems, the values of V-E are positive over the whole composition range and at all investigated temperatures. The variation of these properties with the composition of the binary mixtures is discussed in terms of molecular interactions between components and structural effects. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V.
