Surface Modification of Pitch-Based Carbon-Fiber for the Improvement of Electrochemical Lithium Intercalation
In order to improve the anode characteristics of pitch-based carbon fibres for Li secondary batteries, we adopted two kinds of heat treatment procedures, i.e. in vacuo and in a partially oxidizing atmosphere. Heating to 980 degrees C in vacuo was found to remove the surface hydroxyls and adsorbed water effectively. This method improved the high current charge-discharge capacities and cyclability of the carbon fibres.
